The Friday 56 is a fun meme brought to you by the superb blog, Freda’s Voice. The rules are simple and are listed below.
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that’s ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)
*Add your (url) post at Freda’s Voice in the Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
*It’s that simple.
Here is my pick for this week:
This excerpt is from book “The Book of Negroes” by Lawrence Hill. This book tells us the story of Aminata Diallo. Abducted from Africa as a child and enslaved in South Carolina, Aminata thinks only of freedom. Sold to an indigo trader who recognises her intelligence, Aminata is torn from her family and thrown into the chaos of the Revolutionary War.
Here, we see Aminata introducing herself to a fellow kidnapped slave who very much reminds her of her father.
By the way, what are you reading this Friday?
